Natural Bridge Caverns

Click on picture see larger photo

A fried egg stalagmite (pronounced "frahd aig" in Texas); Natural Bridge Caverns, near New Braunfels, Comal County. Water dripping from a high ceiling hits the floor with such force that it splatters the drop over a wide area, forming a flattened stalagmite. Humic acid from soil stains the calcite with a yolk color (© Pete Lindsley).
